Peruvian.  How embarrassing would it be to name your restaurant Popular, only to later learn it is not? Luckily, or skillfully, this is absolutely not the case.  Because Popular is very.  And there are so many reasons why.

I was instantly taken in by the vibe – juiced by a sea of long leafed plants and trees filling the space and the lounge preceding it.  Nearly jungle like and with an addictive Latin beat, it’s impossible not to groove on these surroundings.

The Peruvian menu has an abundance of allure, including an array of ceviches.  I gave in to the Ceviche Clasico (fluke, octopus, red onion, cilantro).  Tart, tangy, the incredibly refreshing start I didn’t know I needed until tasting it.

The server recommended the bibb lettuce.  I’m usually reluctant to order salad in the midst of so much appeal, but this is no simple green trip.  The leaves ridiculously fresh and large, springing inches above the plate.  Accompanied by avocado, pomegranate, quinoa, goat cheese and one of the best dressings ever, I was more than a little sad downing the last few bites.

I decided to go beef entrée with the lomo saltado for two.  The filet mignon sliced amongst potatoes, vidalia onions and vine ripe tomatoes, bursting with every bite.  The chili soy sealed the deal, making it truly next level.

Wondering how to cap such a meal, I ordered the Peruvian chocolate cake, expecting a slice.   Theirs arrives deconstructed, amidst caramelized peanuts and strawberries.  That was a surprise, but not as much as the spectacular equation of nuttiness, fruitiness and chocolate.

It won’t take you long to see why Popular is.  And always should be.
