American.  A grid, by definition, could not be more orderly and structured.  But dishes at The Grid are as twisty and mouthwateringly unexpected as it gets.

Think French onion soup.  Now whatever you’re imagining, erase from your mind.  Theirs celebrates sharp cheddar, Great Jones bourbon and hidden beneath that delicious roof of cheese, short rib!

Also down the winding road, the entrées, specifically that Great Jones burger.  Potato chips on the side, more bourbon, and your choice of cheddar or blue cheese.  I went blue cheese and it was one of the most addictive burgers of my life.   So what sent it over the top?  Two words: bacon jam.

It turns out, their genius extends to simpler conceptions as well.  Like the gem lettuce Caesar.  The soft, yet somehow crunchy, giant leaves achieve Cinderella status through the modest magic of avocado, toasted pine nuts and grana padano dressing.

As for seafood, witness the potato crusted halibut with sunchokes and “Manhattan clam chowder”.  That means the fish is soup surfing.  And all the more delicious for it.

So how do you end a meal this off the beaten path?  I made the commitment to baked Alaska (Great Jones four grain, salted peanut butter ice cream, caramelized banana ice cream).  And reveled in the magic of dessert set on fire.

Really, what else is there to say?  Get on The Grid.  It’s off the charts.
