Haitian.  Step inside and you’re instantly immersed in the Caribbean tunes the DJ is spinning. Raise your glance and you’re greeted by blue, red and green lights dancing on the ceiling. In other words, Rebel is a total party.

I began with the sake pase shrimp, self described as Kreyol seasoned and fried to golden perfection. They do not lie. It takes a lot of control not to devour them in a matter of minutes.

Also crave inducing, the Kreyol fries. Chive dusted and in the presence of Kreyol aioli, they are not to be missed.

Clearly app experts, they’re just as well versed in the art of the entrée. The Rebel beef is grass fed, slow braised, and offered two ways – fried or in sauce. I chose the second selection and could not have been happier with the sweet, tangy deliciousness. Both options are served with traditional Haitian black mushroom rice – aka Djon Djon. Then red beans and either sweet or green plantains. I went sweet and found them fabulously candyesque in flavor.

I next indulged in the deep fried lobster tail and shrimp. The plate was positively brimming with seafood and who can say no to more shrimp? Plus plaintains and Djon Djon. All that generosity of dish meant I was not the only one taking some home for another feast.

You don’t have to go all the way to the Caribbean to experience an authentic Haitian evening. Just come to Clinton Street and put a little Rebel in your life.
