Steakhouse. Your meal begins with compliments of the chef. On this particular evening, basil pesto arancini. It’s hard to believe these petite orbs could produce such an outrageous explosion of flavor. Just before ordering, the waiter returns for a highly informative show and tell. Each cut is presented then fully described, so you’re well educated before making a decision.
I selected the bone in filet mignon, weighing an impressive 14 oz. The addition of appetizers, a side, and plans for dessert meant I would have the pleasure of finishing it at home. While characterized as leftovers, the term is practically a slur when referencing this colossally tasty beef. In fact, several items in my fridge bowed down upon its arrival.
While on the subject of entrances, let’s rewind to the roasted shrimp (orange, trevisano, fennel, black olive, Banyuls vinegar). Maybe it’s the roasting that made this so exceptional, but I was completely blown away. The plentiful bitter greens Caesar (toasted bread crumbs, parmesan) exceeded every Caesar expectation while the broccolini (chosen as companion for the steak) gave me another healthful reason to justify the final course.
The options were wonderfully agonizing: chocolate dome, NY cheesecake, Cookies N’ Cream ice cream cake, S’mores sundae, bread pudding, but I singled out their cast iron chocolate chip cookie (chocolate pudding, vanilla ice cream, salted caramel poured from above). So complete and instantaneous was my devotion, I could have put a ring on it. Then, just when I thought the meal was done, the server delivered a parting gift of salted caramel ice cream bon bons.
The Bowery Meat Company is utterly and completely over the top. And you wouldn’t want it any other way.
